Did I get your attention with the headline?

Ayurveda and naturopaths have for years asked you to avoid certain foods. The communication comes across as esoteric and confusing.

But is there a scientific reason why?

Foods often come with toxins. That glass of wine, the slice of bread, or the piece of meat on your plate. One of the most concerning is ochratoxin A (OTA), a toxin produced by certain fungi that contaminate cereals, wines, and even animal feed.

Once it enters the food chain, it finds its way to us. It has been linked to kidney damage, immune suppression, and even cancer.

But modern life is such that it is difficult to avoid these foods. Imagine going to a dinner and telling the host you will not partake of the bread and wine?

So what can you do?

Nature, as always, provides a remedy. Add clove, cinnamon, and turmeric to your diet. When consumed, these natural compounds protect you from the harmful effects of ochratoxin A.

Curcumin, eugenol and cinnamaldehyde from turmeric, clove and cinnamon.

Yes, Grandma knew best, even if she could not explain why.

Laboratory studies have shown remarkable ability to reverse the damage caused by OTA. These spices reduce oxidative stress, restore liver and kidney function, and protect DNA from further harm.

Essentially, they help the body repair itself.

This is wellness at its best. Use naturally available ingredients to heal or counteract the effects of nature.

So does this give you a license to have bread, wine and meat?

The answer is it depends. If you have added these spices into your diet and still see symptoms then perhaps not. If you have other symptoms such as excessive weight, bloating, indigestion, pain, kidney pain then perhaps the spices are not working for you.

It is also possible that the quantities you are consuming exceed the ability of these spices to counteract effects.

So the best way forward is trial and error. Reach out and ask if you have concerns.
