Silence: It is healing
Have you ever thought about what silence truly is? Not the quiet of an early morning, or the pause between two heartbeats. I mean absolute silence.
A void where sound cannot travel. Let me illustrate with an example.
Space is silent.
Beyond the thin film of our atmosphere, there is nothing to carry sound waves. No air. No breeze. No whisper. Imagine standing there. No music of the birds, no chatter of leaves. So silent, you cant even hear your heartbeat.
Silence can be unsettling. But it can also be liberating.
We fear silence because silence makes us confront ourselves. Silence has no distraction. It forces us to face our thoughts, our insecurities, our dreams that we quietly bury.
But silence is also healing.
In deep silence, your mind reorganizes. You start noticing your breath. Your body. Beyond the intial hesitation, silence feels calm, infinite and natural.
When astronauts return from space, they often talk about something called the overview effect. Seeing Earth as a fragile blue dot changes how they think about life.
But I think the silence of space changes them too. It forces them to listen to their inner voice.
What if we could create such silence here on Earth?
Would we see life differently? Could silence be a bridge to peace?
We live in a world filled with noise. Notifications, conversations, constant streams of data.
We rarely pause long enough to hear our own thoughts. The constant stimulus makes us numb to our feelings but also to the feelings of others.
If you sit in silence, even for five minutes, you will notice how much noise you carry inside.
Try it. Step away from your phone. Close your eyes. Breathe. Feel the silence. It is vast, almost cosmic.
In that space, you may just find yourself.
