Senescent Cells: The connection to arthritis

Your body is made up of approximately 36 billion cells. Every day, these cells divide and multiply to produce replica cells.

The old ones die and are ultimately removed. It is the great game of life being played out on a minute to minute basis.

Occasionally, some cells become senescent.

Senescence is a condition in which the cells stop dividing and replicating. However, they do not die and are not removed. So the cells are neither dead nor alive. They are senescent or zombie like.

It is hard to measure how many senescent cells you have. However, the effects show up as symptoms and disease.

Arthritis, both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid. Poor immunity. Even cancer.

Research has shown that people suffering from arthritis show a greater level of senescent cells around their joints, for example.

While the research does not establish a clear connection between senescent cells and the disease itself, the belief is that more zombie cells, lower immunity and increase inflammation.

So what can you do to reduce senescent cells in your body?

Start with fasting. Fasting causes autophagy, your body using dead toxic cells as food, when denied. Yes, the very same senescent cells we are talking about. The best way for most people to fast is for seventy-two hours, ideally without water.

Consume food that contains antioxidants. Antioxidants work on these cells helping remove them from your body. They do so by lending electrons.

Finally, walk. Walking increases your blood flow by up to twenty times. The increased rushing of blood in your arteries acts like a pump. The pump transfers these senescent cells to your kidney or liver where they are eliminated.

We all make senescent cells. It is when the rate of production exceeds the rate of removal that scientists worry about their negative effect.

But the rate of removal is also in your hand.
