Penalty or Identity: what should you solve for?

Penalty or Identity: what should you solve for?

Someone posted an article on Linkedin about preventive healthcare. A top-tier accounting firm had introduced a new policy. According to the policy you get penalised a large sum of money if you do not get a health check up.

Wonderful! So an annual preventive check up will become the norm.

Speak to anyone in the medical industry. Medical diagnosis is a spectrum. If it's serious, no doctor would like to let you leave without intervention. It would be negligence.

If there was no serious finding, you would walk away saying "its a minor nuisance."

So I am all for regular screening. But such interventions mask the true problem.

Unless there is a crisis, you are unlikely to change because of a health screening.

Your daily weight already tells you enough.

Weight is among the best predictors of metabolic health. Metabolic health is the most common cause of disease.

But like you might not change because your weight is more than normal, you will not change because you got a health check up.

True change occurs when you change your identity. My brother in law is punjabi, so I ask his and his elk's forgiveness for what I say. I know they can take the barb.

A punjabi identity is to live life up, have fun, enjoy, eat drink and be happy.

No health check up changes this identity short of a crisis. In fact, even after a crisis, most people go back to the way they were. And thank God that they still can, while doing it.

So you see, it is not more data we need. It is change at the principle level.

A change of who you think you are.

So who do you think you are in the context of good health? What are the beliefs that drive you? What habits have you formed that reinforce your habits and beliefs?
