Cheese: Make it a part of your everyday diet
Have you eaten cheese recently? If you have not for fear that it will make you put on weight or worse, this article is for you.
Cheese has been unfairly vilified.
We were told it causes weight gain. That it is full of saturated fat. That it raises cholesterol. But science tells a different story.
Cheese is a rich source of protein and good fat. These two macronutrients are essential. Your body uses protein to build muscle, repair cells, and make enzymes.
Fat is vital for hormones and your brain. Unlike sugar, cheese does not spike your insulin. It keeps you full for longer.
Not all cheese is the same.
Cottage cheese is soft, mild, and low in fat. It is packed with casein protein. Casein digests slowly, releasing amino acids. That is why athletes love it.
Parmesan is aged. That makes it easier to digest. It is also loaded with calcium, zinc, and vitamin B12. Just a spoonful can flavour your food and nourish your body.
Brie is creamy. Made from whole milk. Rich in conjugated linoleic acid it is believed to help reduce body fat and improve immunity.
Pecorino is made from sheep’s milk. It has more healthy fats and vitamins A and E. People with lactose intolerance sometimes tolerate sheep's milk better.
Fermented cheese also feeds your gut. It introduces good bacteria. That’s good for your digestion, mood, and even immunity.
Still not convinced?
Let’s look at traditional diets. The French eat brie. Italians love pecorino. Indians eat paneer daily. These cultures have strong bones, good teeth.
Cheese also satisfies. A cube or slice can stop you from reaching for a sugary snack. It helps regulate appetite. That’s because of the protein and fat which increased satiety.
So, should you eat cheese daily?
Yes! hoose good quality. Aged, unprocessed, and made from whole milk. If the cow is grass fed, you cant get better.
Cheese is not the villain. It is nutrient-dense, satisfying, and good for you. Just eat it mindfully.
