Arterial Blockages - what can you do?

If you know someone who has blocked arteries, have you ever wondered what exactly are blocked arteries? The technical term is arterial occulsion.

Your body has approximately 100,000 miles of arteries and veins through which blood flows.

Blood is the medium that carries fat from your abdomen, which is where it is produced, to the rest of your body.

The fat is carried in protein vessels also known as APO(b). Fat, in the form of triglycerides and cholesterol, cannot float freely in your blood. To solve this, your body packages fat into lipoproteins.

Think of them as cargo ships carrying precious metals.

But these transport ships are not perfect vaults. They are dynamic. The outer shell has fat that is loosely held. As these proteins moves through blood, some of these molecules can leak or exchange with other lipoproteins or directly into artery walls.

You have deposits of fat in your arteries. If this occurs over and over again, plaque builds up.

Over time, these deposits harden, narrow the passage, and increase the risk of sudden blockage.

But the body is remarkable. It can self heal.

So it finds other arteries to send the blood through. A bypass of sorts. But if you keep abusing the system, it reaches a point of breaking.

Early signs can include cramping pain, pain in the chest or breathlessness.

So, what can you do?

The first step is prevention. Your lifestyle determines whether plaque builds up silently in your arteries. Balanced nutrition, rich in vegetables, nuts, and whole grains, reduces the load of cholesterol.

Regular physical activity keeps vessels elastic and improves circulation. Stress management and sleep help regulate blood pressure and insulin sensitivity.

All of this obviously depends on the severity of the blockage. Generally speaking, medical intervention is required when the blockage is above seventy percent.

But we have seen conditions where blockages could improve even with higher numbers, provided you made the right changes.
