The Oxford dictionary defines anxiety as a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about uncertain outcomes in the future.

We all fear the unknown. We fear, perhaps even more, the fear of missing out or FOMO. No one else should know or do that which I don’t, lest I get left behind.

Is anxiety driving your choices in health?

Health, longevity and fitness are topics you encounter where ever you look. Bars, restaurants, social media. On a flight. But a lot of the conversations center on new angles or hacks. A new peptide, perhaps. Or a new compound.

Every so often, an old hack makes its way back into mainstream dialogue. Gyms are being repackaged as longevity centres.

Protein is doing the rounds. The other day I saw someone peddling potato chips with added protein.

They prey on your fears. The fear of being left behind.

It need a three-part trick. First, establish that you are ignorant and do not know better. Next, establish that I have some specialised <knowledge> <secret> <insight> that is truly unique.

Package it as scientific using technical language. Finally, make you believe that you will be left behind if you do not do what I ask.

Voila! You are now ready to sign up for anything.

Of course you don't know if it will work. How can you? Even the person telling you does not know if it will work. They dont need to. They just need you to belive it.

So round and round we go.

None of this would matter if it did not come with consequences. But there are serious consequences.

Of believing that you are doing everything you can for your health when you are not. Of doing something that will cause harm.

Naturally, the questions that begs an answer is what should you then do?

Honestly, the best answer is deep application to understand what is good health.
