Water: how can you improve the quality at home
Your body is approximately seventy percent water. The water in your body comes from your home kitchen for the most.
How do you know the quality of your water?
One of the most common things discussed in my conversations with people is the ability to improve water quality. Generally, these conversations migrate to a water filter, purifier or equivalent.
But there may be a simpler way.
To buy a meter that tests for pH and purity. They are easily available online and allow you to get a true sense of the quality of your water.
These meters will allow you to test total dissolved solids. Chlorine, nitrates, metals and even bacteria. It also allows you to test the pH level. The pH level indicates the alkalinity or acidity of your water.
Then, depending on what you find, you can dial back and try to fix the problem.
Either the source of the water or your filtration mechanism.
I first discovered these meters during a coffee workshop. In such workshops, they obsess over the quality of the water. Water affects the taste and experience of the coffee.
It turns out that this can be easily deployed at home as well.
So how often should you test?
Obviously everytime you do something that affects the water. Otherwise, once a month would probably be enough.
If you find your water is too acidic, there are several simple hacks you can use.
Adding a few drops of baking soda, lemon, adding alkaline drops or frankly even adding some vegetable broth to your water.
All of these can be done before you cook food with the water, improving the quality of the water.
Naturally the taste might vary a little and therefore you need to be careful about the choices you are making.
But you are mostly water and empy space right? So spending a little time fixing your water quality might be worth your time.
