Longevity: are we chasing the wrong goal?

Longevity: are we chasing the wrong goal?

Each morning when I wake up, my timeline is flooded with shiny new ways to increase longevity. Peptides, lymphatic stimulation, isolates of compounds. All promising a longer life.

But are we chasing the wrong goal?

It is not my argument that you should not live long. More likely, with medical science you will. Lifespan, as it is called. If you have taken care of your health, you will get what is called Healthspan.

But what about living every moment?

Our scriptures already have a term for it. Ananda. The ability to truly appreciate and enjoy life. Surely, enjoying every moment that you have been given, would double life at the very least?

Most of us spend our entire lives fretting. Strangely, we fret over our desire to live a happy, fulfilled life. Instead of living a happy, fulfilled life.

Yes, of course it is not easy.

Which is why most of us spend our time and energy trying to be fulfilled, insted of being fullfilled. Then we feel time is short and we must somehow extend it. As I have said before, the desire to live longer is not new.

Emperor's in China were experimenting with mercury as the cure all to extend life. It did not end well.

So are we chasing the wrong goal?

The answer would depend on where you are in your life. If truly, at this juncture, you are unwell, it would make sense to chase peptides and compounds. You might not have an option.

But life is perhaps, best lived by living in balance.

The ability to do what you need to, but also enjoy the fullness of the moment, the experience, whatever life brings. Being in a place where you are anchored enough to not fret and fume over life, and be able to live life.

Then the longevity that you sought would be pleasure. Wouldn't it?
