Asthma: is it possible to cure it?
I woke yesterday, noticing the slightest nip in the air. The kind that makes you pause and say, winter is lurking round the corner.
For most people, it is the season of Santa, snow and steaming mugs of cocoa. For me, coughing, wheezing, fever. Chest seizing up.
Pretending that it was all fine. Stiff upper lip, old chap, as Jeeves might say. I have been asthma free for eleven years now.
So how can you do the same?
I am oversimplifying, but asthma is caused by poor immunity. Immunity is affected by inflammation and poor nutrition. Let us start with nutrition.
Some of the best cures for asthma include quercetin, resveratrol, curcumin and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (ECGC). Yes, I know they are all a mouthful.
So let us make it easy.
Quercetin is found in onions, broccoli, apples, blueberries, cranberries, grapes, fennel, oregano, cilantro and dill.
Resveratrol is found in grapes, pomegranates and almost all red fruits. Yes, I know wine also has it, but I can assure you that the benefits of fruit outweigh the benefits of wine.
Curcumin is found in turmeric. Typically, it is best absorbed with pepper and fat. Just the way Grandma used it.
EGCG is found in green tea, cocoa, apples and pears. The key benefit of drinking green tea is linked to the high concentration of EGCG.
There is a catch, though.
We have not discussed inflammation. Think of inflammation as a leaky hole in your system that is eliminating the benefits of all the food and drink you are putting in.
Inflammation is caused by poor sleep, lack of exercise, poor nutrition, stress and anxiety, and poor breathing to illustrate. It is caused when your body is out of homeostatic balance.
So while foods heal, if you have not experienced the benefits, don’t blame the food. The likely cause is elsewhere.
In my case, I eliminated the inflammation, added the right food to my life and Voila, my asthma disappeared as if it had seen the Ghost of Christmas Past.
So can yours.
